“Leave is made from images of a rooftop, denim fabric and a skeleton x-ray, all mounted on card. The flowers are laid over the assembled parts along with the text element that is cut from ink on paper.

The piece uses sentimental imagery and connotations of comfort and tactility whilst the skeleton print and instructive word “leave” work in confliction with this and the piece becomes open to more unsettling interpretations.

Leave is the first in a new series of small-scale works where I am using text to interrupt and corrupt our reading of the visual elements of collage.”
