‘We express our beliefs, desires and hopes in stories, in an attempt to explain ourselves and to understand others’.
Winchester Journals is a collection of short essays by the Winchester School of Art graduates of 2012. The essays started off as the students reflective journals produced at the end of their undergraduate degree. Many of the students felt they wanted to share their many different opinions and issues with contemporary art, such as ‘Will the physicality of the book remain in society?’ and ‘Storytelling in a fashion collection’. To do this they needed a platform for the creative student voice, which is where Soapbox Press came in. The trio took it upon themselves to edit the journals into accessible articles for the public to read and engage with as well as designed and distributing. This was the first publication by Soapbox and paved the way for the rest of their journey so far.
